"He will pay for this. I will kill him for this. I will kill him with my bare hands!"

Chapter Thirteen

All regular programming was canceled, and the manifesto played on repeat a few times more times before a live stream filled the screen. Nasol sat up straighter as the ruined castle came into view. The flames were replaced with smoldering bunches of rocks. I gasped seeing the remains of charred bodies thrown about. The shot panned out, and the supposed dead prince Borran walked on screen flanked by a few men.

"This is a glorious day for all of Elendil," he started. "Today marks the beginning of the new regime. We have taken our world back from the corrupt rulers and today marks the beginning of the south becoming equal to the north. For us to be one family – one Elendil."

"We were always equal," Nasol growled under his breath.

Borran began again. "No longer will you have to live under the rule of a tyrannical leader who is unwilling to help his citizens." The men behind him shook their heads in agreement. "I have seen to the death of the royal family and their Head Generals, and I have destroyed their major bases and cities for your own protection. My men will start doing checks of the nation and anyone who is found loyal to the old ways, those who refuse to swear their allegiance to me will be killed along with their offspring and mates. I will not allow anyone who is against the true unification of our planet to live. Daily checks will begin today of every home on the planet. We will create a new police force to help us at this time."

I gasped after hearing his words. “He couldn't mean killing everyone who disagrees with him, could he? That just seems wrong."

"It’s what he knows," Nasol said. "The south ruled that way. Under us, they were free. Now he wants to shove them all under his thumb. It's barbaric."

"Do you think the people will fight back?" I asked.

He shrugged. "Not without a leader. He killed the generals who would have supported my father, supported me. But..." A thought must have occurred to him because he lit up. "Vikram’s off planet!"

"Vikram's alive?" Hope filled me at this revelation. My friend was still alive.

"Yes," he nodded. "I gave him two days off after I broke his nose and I believe he went off the planet. If I can get in contact with him, he can come to pick us up, and we can get out of here."

"You’re going to leave your people?" I asked in disbelief.

"Don’t look at me like that. I need support. The kind of support that I will not find here. I need an army to fight an army."

"Your people can be your army," I argued.

"I will not lead them to their deaths. The army is in shambles, and I need more to save them. I do not plan to leave them for long."

"But they need you, they need to know you are alive.
